Media Management

Webaptive's Media library can be used to store and serve media files. Media library supports most commonly used image, video and audio formats.

Bulk Import

To bulk import media files launch Webaptive Site Administrator. Select a CMS enabled website/application, then click on the "Import Media" tool bar button. This will launch the media import utility. The connection string will default to that used by the selected website. Click "Next" to proceed to the next screen that will let you pick the images you wish to import. The next screen will provide you with more filter options and the ability to resize the images and create thumbs. Select the folder within Webaptive's media library into which the selected files are to be imported (NOTE: Files cannot be directly imported to the "Root", any files directly imported to "Root" will get ignored.). Click import to import the files.

Tip: Use the Sync option to only import newly modified or created files, importing all files every time will unnecessarily bulk up the CMS DB with redundant versions.

Update Media

The Media Library can be accessed from various locations within Webaptive to update or embed media. To updated a CMS enabled "img" tag simply edit it, opening the media library. Locate the image file you wish to get displayed within the image tag and click next.
To embed a image or a flash file inside a WYSIWYG editor click on the respective icons on the tool bar opening the image or flash manager dialog that will let you browse to and pick a media file for embedding.

Tip: Updating or Deleting media files does not change media that is already embedded within postings. To do that the posting will have to be checked out, edited and has to pass through the configured work flow before being published.

Creating Image Maps

In HTML and XHTML , an image map is a list of coordinates relating to a specific image, created in order to hyperlink areas of the image to various destinations (as opposed to a normal image link, in which the entire area of the image links to a single destination). For example, a map of the world may have each country hyperlinked to further information about that country. The intention of an image map is to provide an easy way of linking various parts of an image without dividing the image into separate image files.

Webaptive's built in image mapping tool makes it extremly easy to add image maps to any CMS enabled image tag on the page or embedded within the WYSIWYG editor. After picking the image from the library you will be presented with a tool that will let you draw areas on the selected image and link each area to a posting or a URL. There is no need to embed any files or make any changes to the web page file to get the image map to work.
